My Editing Services

$0.009 per word

I proofread focused purely on “technical” errors: spelling, grammar, punctuation, typos, missing words, formatting, layout, etc.

A proofread does not include any edits for style, sentence structure, or flow, but eliminates even the smallest errors to give your work its final, word-perfect polish so that it’s ready for self-publishing or querying.

Best for:

A final draft that needs a pair of eagle eyes to catch any remaining errors before publishing.

Proofreading

$0.012 per word

I do a close read of your work, more in-depth than a proofread, to address wordiness, unintentional shifts in verb tense or tone, contradictions or redundancies, plot inconsistencies, and fact-checking.

A copy edit ensures that the language throughout the entire piece is polished, clear, and grammatical, and I make thoughtful comments to suggest small style improvements to streamline clunky sentences or clarify areas that may confuse readers.

Line editing is all about style and language. Your voice is what makes your writing unique, and I'll ensure that it flows seamlessly from Chapter One to "The End."

I'll tighten up repetition, wrangle wordiness, flag continuity issues, suggest fixes for clunkiness and character voice inconsistencies, and smooth over awkward phrasing. My job isn't to rewrite or change needlessly; it's to help your style shine to tell your story with maximum impact so it "sounds" and "feels" consistent throughout.

If you’re not sure which level of editing is right for you, or just want a more affordable, lightweight option to get feedback on your manuscript, a manuscript evaluation might be what you need.

I'll meet with you to discuss the manuscript and your goals, then read through your work and give a 1-page editorial feedback summary of my impressions of your work on a broad, big-picture level and a style/language level.

I can also provide a recommendation for further editing, a sample edit, and a quote for my services.

Manuscript Evaluation

On a tight budget? Let's chat! I can offer payment plans, adjusted rates, or even an exchange of services.

I do not use generative AI in any of my work. I love what I do; why would I let a machine have all the fun?

How it works

1. You tell me all about your book. Let's chat over email or Zoom about your manuscript and your editing needs. I offer sample edits to make sure we’re a good fit.

2. We sign a contract. I typically require a deposit of half the total upfront, with flexibility for tight budgets and payment plans.

3. I get busy editing. My favorite part—I dive in and complete the edit. This usually takes 1-4 weeks, and I may get in touch with questions or to update you on my progress.

4. You get your edited manuscript. I send you two copies of your manuscript (one with tracked changes, so you can review or modify my edits) and a clean copy with all changes applied. I'm always happy to email or meet with you to go over my feedback.
